Printmakers Show" @ the Shanghai Gallery of The Tolman Collection Mr Tolman said... "In December I plan and exhibition including your work. I haven't decided the title,but the purpose of my gallery in Shanghai is to indicate "internationalization" of art to Chinese. Nana Shiomi in London, Naoko Matsubara in Toronto, Oda Mayumi in Hawaii, and Araki Shinko in New Jeresey. I want to show Chinese, especially Chinese women artists, that Japanese women seem to thrive in other cultures while still able to draw on their Japanese roots for inspiration. Matsubara's use of nature, something like that with Araki, and Oda's use of Buddhism, and your own work drawing on your original cultural background all have thrived where ever you have decided to make it. They say in Shanghai that women artists are having a hard time finding galleries to handle their work because men won't let them in. Maybe this exhibtion will give them some ideas." in August 07.
